Transformational software will speed up clinical study delivery

[READING, UNITED KINGDOM, 14 OCT 2019]. IGNITE DATA, co-funded by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK, and in collaboration with NICE DataLab, is developing ground-breaking software to prepopulate clinical research databases (EDC) directly from medical records (EHR), thereby speeding up clinical studies and reducing the need for expensive onsite monitoring.

The project will change the way study data is collected by automating some of the 13-69% of data it is estimated could have been prepopulated straight from patient medical records, but currently isn’t.
The R&D phase, initially worth £757,000, will deliver product working at research sites in the UK and internationally and will help clarify viability and value proposition for all stakeholders.

NHS (primary- and secondary-care) research facilities and pharmaceutical company partners are currently being engaged.

Dan Hydes, CEO, IGNITE DATA:

“30 years ago people thought online automated insurance quotes were a pipe dream, now you wouldn’t dream about doing it any other way. Today, EHR to EDC automation presents many challenges, but with the direction the industry is travelling in, we believe ‘plug-and-play’ access at research sites will be a reality before long.”

Dr Matt Hoghton, Senior GP Partner, Clevedon Medical Centre:

“This will help significantly reduce the need for doctors and nurses to duplicate data entries, lessening arduous data queries and ensuring patients data counts in research. More of the patient’s and clinician’s time will be freed up for clinical research and patient care, rather than administration.”

Dan Gibbs, Senior Operations Executive, NHS acute sector:

“If we are to achieve what we need to against a backdrop of continuing challenge in the NHS, then we need to innovate. This project represents a great opportunity to do just that.”

Richard Yeatman, COO, IGNITE DATA:

“It’s our belief that when an eCRF is developed and sites engaged, technology will be in place to simply ‘sync’ data. The knock-on is huge. Less time wasted, faster studies, monitoring minimised, the list goes on. It’s not easy. It requires modern technology and many relationships. But we will make that belief a reality.”
